ADVICE!

I walked into this class thinking that I already knew everything needed to get by, but I was definately wrong. Ms. Belisle has taught us so much. Some advice I have for the fall student is to make sure you do all the assignments ahead of time, so if you run into any complications you'll have time to fix it. Every assignment counts, so dont miss points on easy homework assignments. Ms. Belisle is very helpful, so dont hesitate going in for help. The m/c question are sometimes very confusing and tricky so dont worry if you dont do well, there will be other points thatll bring it up. Most importantly, learn and have fun.

Websites!

I really enjoyed seeing my peers websites. The results showed how much hard work they had put into it. I was also able to see the more creative side of many of them. Each of the websites defined the person almost perfectly! I really liked Erin, Morgan, and Lucy's websites. Their websites defined perfection. I really enjoyed the professionalism and the movie that Erin embedded into her website. Morgan's navbar was very clever, and her pages were perfect. The backgrounds really reflected her pages and flowed smoothly. I absolutely loved Lucy's website. The navbar was great. Her continous theme of colors really fit in with her personality; i really liked her album of pictures.

my website!

Please visit my website at : www.cs.trinity.edu/~nmohamma . Making a website was a lot harder than I expected. There were so many little tasks that had to be done perfectly in order to get the ideal website! I downloaded Expression Web the day that it was introduced in class. I played around with it a few times so i could get a hold of things and the way they worked. I also used photoshop element 6. Unfortunately, my trial with edition 8 was finished so i had to downloade a lower edition. I reallly like my home page in addition to my photo gallery page. I made my homepage on photoshop and i put a my favorites collage. I got the background off of the source code of someones website! When I looked at the individuals code, it felt so good understanding a lot of the code. I really enjoyed making my backgrounds, most were made on photoshop. If i could change something i wouldve added a few more pages and maybe add more explainations on the pages. My biggest technical challenge would have been getting everything centered on different resolution pages and computer screens. On some computer everything was centered and perfected, but when i opened it on my friends computers to show them everything was off. There wasn't really much I could do though. Another technical challenge i had was dealing with the table. With tables inserted on pages it was hard to center and perfect the pages. My biggest design challenge was getting the background to all flow and match. I didnt want the background to draw attention from the content on the page! I'm going home this weekend and i cant wait to show my parents and my friends my website! I'll definately look into making another website in the future.

Pictures that LIE!

I choose a picture of a zebra bending over eating grass as my original picture. I choose to manipulate the picture because I wanted to illustrate how unique the animal truely is. The orignal picture was taken from an individual photographer who takes pictures of these distinctive animals. Originally the zebra was eating some grass, so i decided to feather alot of the background out to make the zebra the "center of attention". I added humanly objects such as sunglasses and a spinning hat to validate my point. When adding these objects i had to use the magnetic lasso tool in addition to the quick selection tool. After move the objects over to the zebra i had to mess around with the opacity to make it blend in. In addition i had to adjust the colors, for the glasses i had to make them darker because the original picture had a slight glare on it. I also changed the hue and saturation for both items. Lastly, I added a text layer with a "unique" type of test to demonstrate my point better.

Zebras are known for their distinctive black and white stripes; each individual stripes come in different patterns unique to that individual. The unique stripes and behaviors of zebras make these among the animals most familiar to people. However, various anthropogenic factors have had a severe impact on these zebra populations, specifically hunting for skins and habitat destructions. These animals should not be pinpointed because of their uniqueness just for pleasure. I believe that this picture does not put a harmful vibe to the public because it isnt much of a controversial issue, it's more of my opinion. The reason I added those objects was to illuminate their uniqueness. The picture relates to the article i choose in several ways. The article states that the" retouching of photographs to produce images may be sophisticated or crude". In my case, I retouched this picture to paint a more clearer view of what I think about this distinct animal. The article states how easy it is to manipulate a picture from"the click of a button". The article also discusses the growing fact that pictures are constently being altered and this is taking away from the genuiness of the picture.I agree with the article. I feel that photographs should not be able to be doctored and publsihed in such an accesible way, the computer. There should be laws that inform the viewer that this photograph has be doctored--and state the reason why.

why worry about HTML?

Even though there are so many other easier ways to make/edit websites; html coding is an important skill to know and use. For example, let's say that something happened to your website and for some reason the pictures won't load, well by looking at the HTML code you will be able to see where the problem is and diagnose it right away! Another reason why knowing html coding is beneficial is if you come across someones website and you like a specific thing on it, you can copy the code and add it on your own website!

Powerpoint Extravaganza

I really enjoyed watching my classmates explain their potential careers in such a short period of time. I learned so many new things about each career field that I found very interesting. Once specific thing I noticed about the powerpoint presentations was that each person was able to let out their more creative side. One specific presentation that I really enjoyed was Lucy's. I remember being engaged in every aspect of it. She wasn't reading off the slides and was keeping the audience attentive by her choice of diction and pictures. The presentation was very well layed out. Another presentation that comes to mind that was very exciting and interesting was Morgan's. I really enjoyed the video of the Italian chef (who slipped a cuss word :P) and her vibrant color scheme and background. Her presentation skills were awesome!

nice job guys!

Powerpoint info session

After reading the Powerpoint tips, there are several points I agree with and some I don't. I believe that powerpoints are meant to be short and to the point while incorporating entertainment and keeping the audience engaged. I dont find anything wrong with usuing cheesy clipart, sometimes these are used to prove a point.
The recommendations for Faculty on Powerpoint was very interesting. It presented several flaws and how to correct them. Having a background that not simple doesnt really make the text harder to read. The presenter should just take time and corrdinate the colors so they are visible. Sometimes the background that are pictures present a mood for the presentation.

Now the 5 essential tips:
-Keep the data short and to the point
-dont let the powerpoint take over your presentation, the audience should be listening to what you are saying
-its not necessary to read your slide, we are all literate!
-dont go overboard with pictures and animations, those are just a plus. pay more attention to what you are going to say
-color corrdination, make should everything is visible and the color them flows.

Chris Nolan's Visit

We have the pleasure of having Chris Nolan, assistant librarian at Coates Library at Trinity University, come speak to us last Tuesday. His reasoning for coming was to show us a more accurate way of using search engines, such as Google. I learned so many things about the search engine that I didn't even know existed. For example, if you are searching something and you dont want a specific word to show up you place a - sign in front of the word than it won't show up in your results. In addition, Google gives priority to the sites they view as being more credible. Also when looking at a site to see if it is crediable, it is a good idea to look at the references and see if they are indeed crediable sources. A very useful thing i leatned was about Google desktop. This is an item that must download from the web. It is a resource that can be used to search your entire desktop in addition to your email. Another thing I learned was about the term "cache". If you click on this, itll pull up the article on the Google server with your keywords highlighted! This is very helpful, especially when you are doing research papers! Lastly, i agree with Mr. Nolan's reasoning for why Google is so popular among the other search engines. It's easy, fast, and reliable( for the most part).

Lies, lies, lies

After looking over all the pictures for the assignment, I was surprised to see how much technology skews the truth behind picture. In some cases, the meaning behing the photo completely changes. I found this picture to be a prime example. Anything having to do with sharks usually has a negative connotation, and this pictures seems to cover that the second time around. Originally, this photo was just a normal picture of a U.S. Air force helicopter with an individual hanging down the flimsy rope ladder. The author of this edit is the Museum of Hoaxes; they had horizontally flipped the pictures and phtoshopped a shark trying to attack the individual hanging down. This was an edit that reached it's "wow " factor since it was "top made" on the internet in 2001.

CLT A Place Where You Get TLC ;)

The CLT( Center for Learning and Technology) is located on the first floor of the library. Down here, you will find many Macs and PCs uploaded with the newest software used for photo/video editing, all types of editing software, and rooms for video and audio recording. In addition, here you will find knowledgable and caring staff that will take assistance in any problems.

CLT hosts classes for faculty to get familiar with new software that is being offered. It is beneficial to go to The Center for help with photoshop. If you ever need to scan a document or photo, CLT is the place to go. Also if you ever want to incorporate a video in a powerpoint CLT can also help you with that.

If you happen to forget your camera at home and need a digital camera for a project or an event, you are able to borrow CLT's just as long as you get prior approval by your professor!
Remember, CLT is open to anyone and run the same hours as the library!

ps- can you believe that we've had a video conferenve with the well-respected Hillary Clinton just a few weeks ago???

CopyRIGHT !

CopyRIGHT. We see, hear, and breathe it everyday. It envelopes us in almost every activity we take part it each day. Of course there is so much more to the word COPYRIGHT than what we think. We had the pleasure of having Mr. Jason Hardin come speak to us of this word of importance. It blew my mind when he said that copyright dates back to the 1970s! And who would ever guess that a US copyrighted product is the author's lifespan + 70 additional years? So why is copyright such an enforced practice in today's society? It enables creativity and originality among individuals; it allows creators to create without being worried of someone else taking credibility of that work.
The most recent talk about copyrighting that been on headlines is music sharing/downloading. To our understanding, the artist creates/performs/sings their creation; later this creation becomes available to audiences, whether it be CD's or even mediums such as iTunes. But at the same time there are music sites where these songs can be purchased for FREE. So which do we choose? Of course it is easier and makes a lot more sense to choose the free, click-away available option, but is it really loyal to artist to do such a thing? I don't know about you guy, but when something is being offered to me for free in my convenience, why should i have to get in my car and drive all the way to Best Buy to purchase the same thing? It's of great disloyalty to the artist to do this. How are they supposed to make their money if everybody is file sharing/downloading the songs for free? Downloading music off the internet for free can put you at risk for a copyright violation. Be very careful because at some instance people are able to watch what you are doing, especially here at school!

Trinity Network Diagram !

This is a snapshot of my TU Network System. As you can see I put Ruth Taylor Hall in the center because it is pretty much the "brain" of the network system. Ruth Taylor usually recieves signals and circulates them to their ideal location among the campus.

Word from the Wise

Since Mr. Joe Hatch's visit on thursday of last week, I downloaded CCleaner. After he enlightened us with how vulnerable our computer is to third parties I made sure to do this download ASAP. Amazingly after running it , my computer runs so much faster! I believe it wiped out about 2128 mbs!
So my "word from the wise" is to download CCleaner. Run it about twice a month to prevent your computer from slowing down and becoming a victim to hackers and viruses :( .
Also if you ever have any questions related to your computer ITS is located in Winn 1st.

Scavenger hunt

After reading my classmates blog posts for the scavenger, I learned a lot of very interesting "secret" facts about each of them. I commented on Emily, Lucy, and Morgan's blog posts, telling them specific things I found interesting or about an interesting fact we both share! Their blogs' URLs are:
www.emilyaroberson.blogspot.com
www.lmcevallos.blogspot.com
www.morgansfisher.blogspot.com

Looking forward to getting to know everyone as we advance in this course!

I'm having a tough time here in San Antonio because i havent quite learned my way around yet therefore I can't get out as much as i want! My ethnicity is Persian and Farsi was my first language. Im the only child, and the only one in my family that is left handed! This semester im looking forward to finish rush and im thinking about pledging depending on my work load. In high school, I took a computer science class which mainly focused on programming with java. I would not consider myself computer savvy. I have never made a website and I'm really excited to learn how!
If you have any questions about me or anything about this blog feel free to email me at nmohamma@trinity.edu
